When choosing an excellent specialist in the field of event photography, such as a wedding, you need to take into account many factors.

First of all, you should make sure that the photographer you are considering has experience in this field. To do this, you can look through all the photos he has, but there is an easier way.
Go to the photographer’s website or his Vkontakte group, if he has any, and select only the “wedding” category or related elements on the page. Then it’s simple — look at his portfolio and decide whether the candidate is suitable for the upcoming event.
In this matter, you should adhere to the following requirements: the photographer should have at least several different images not just from one wedding, but from at least three or four. This will tell you whether people trust this person to photograph weddings as such.
It’s also very important to consider the fact that some photographers work exclusively for money, and they are not very interested in the subjects themselves, i.e., the bride and groom. You can find this out from reviews or personal communication (usually such people do not offer discounts or charge very large sums compared to others).
Let’s move on to the professional qualities of the photographer.
Since photography is an art form, everyone may have different opinions about the quality of images and the style of shooting.
For me, as a photographer, the essence of any shoot is to present any celebration as a joyful soul celebration. It doesn’t matter what equipment you use — the main thing is that the client is satisfied! However, there are a few points to consider when choosing an excellent photographer:
- Find out what camera/equipment the person uses — this will tell you more than the final photos (perhaps the editing is not done by him).
- The shooting conditions and the time it takes — sometimes it’s better to discuss all the details upfront.
- The final cost of the photos or the agreed-upon number of shots (the fact is that there is a limit on the footage).
Everyone has their own preferences when it comes to photo quality, such as brightness, color, tone, saturation, etc.
Let me give an example using finished photos that have already been delivered to clients and are considered edited.

In this image, you can see how the color of the sky is purple instead of blue. The brightness of the white color of the bride’s dress blends with the long veil, turning this element of the photo into a white spot. It’s also worth noting that the overall color is too bright, and your eyes get tired from prolonged viewing — the sand is neon brown and doesn’t look like normal sand at all.
Many photographers use the technique of converting images to black and white without warning the end user. I think you should discuss this with them as well, because not everyone likes black-and-white photos when everything sparkles and shines during the wedding.

Here I would like to see the true colors of at least the flowers... It looks more like a funeral, honestly...
Regarding payment for services, there’s only one thing to say — paying a large deposit doesn’t make sense, because human nature is to relax after receiving money... and you want an excellent result!
So, let’s summarize:
- Choosing a professional wedding photographer is very important, so approach this issue with full responsibility.
- All services and additional details should be clarified upfront to avoid awkward situations later.
- You can pay for services on the spot or after receiving the result — this will be both faster and of higher quality.
