Bing Chat has received a significant update, now integrating the latest text-to-image conversion model, DALL-E 3 from OpenAI. And the best part is that it's available to everyone for free. According to Microsoft's announcement, DALL-E 3 significantly outperforms previous generations as it can create more "realistic and diverse images" thanks to improvements in three key areas. The AI can now more accurately follow text prompts when generating content. Microsoft recommends adding as many details as possible to ensure the final image matches your vision. With increased precision, the output will be more consistent or "logically coherent." Sometimes images generated by other models, such as Stable Diffusion, can look just plain weird.

According to the company, the new Bing update improves this situation. Additionally, changes have been made to DALL-E 3 so it can accurately convey unique artistic styles that align with your creative standards. Using the generative engine is very simple. You can go to Bing Chat or the Bing Image Creator website, enter your prompt in the text field, wait a few seconds, and you're done. It's that easy.

Enhanced Safety

In addition to performance improvements, Microsoft has added two safety features to Bing Chat to promote ethical use. Every output will now include a content account and an "invisible digital watermark" indicating that it was created using Bing Image Creator, along with the date and time of creation.

The company is also implementing a "content moderation system" to remove images deemed "harmful or inappropriate." This includes content "containing nudity, violence, hate speech, or illegal activity." It's also worth noting that generating images of known individuals is not allowed. We asked Bing to create something featuring President Joe Biden, but were told it's impossible as it violates the service's policy.

Work in Progress

As impressive as Bing Chat is right now, it's still a work in progress. Like other AI models, Microsoft's tool still struggles with drawing hands. It's not as bad as early 2023, when Stable Diffusion generated gnarled hands. Still, you might notice an extra finger or two. In fact, the werewolf shown above has five fingers on its right hand and only four on its left.

We should also warn you that you may experience some slowdowns during AI image generation. We certainly did, though Bing Chat sped up after a few minutes. In the worst case, the AI may refuse to do anything at all as it can't process new requests.
