We will begin this lesson with the creation of nature – or rather, landscape, sky, mountain and rock images. Then we will add the balcony, and model trees. Later we will strengthen the color effect and contrast of the scene using various adjustment layers. Finally, we use several layers to create lighting effect.

Step 1
Create a new document in Photoshop with the given settings:
Step 2
Open the landscape image. Use the tool Retangular Marquee Tool (M) to select the upper part of the landscape, as shown in the figure below:
Drag the selected part into our document to convert it using the keys Cmd/Ctrl+T:
Click the second button at the bottom of the layers panel to add a mask to this layer. Use a regular, soft brush with black color to remove the hard edge of the sky:
Step 3
Go to the layer with the landscape, go to menu Filter-Blur-Gaussian Blur and set radius to 4 pixels:
Step 4
To darken the landscape I used an adjustment layer. Go to Layer-New Adjustment Layer-Curves:
On this layer mask use a soft black brush to erase the top corner of the scene:
Step 5
Take the sky over the landscape and rotate it using Cmd/Ctrl+T, as shown below:
Add a mask to this layer and remove the rough edges of the sky a soft black brush:
Step 6
Apply the Gaussian blur of about 2 pixels on this part of the sky:
Step 7
I used a curves adjustment layer with clipping mask to brighten the sky a bit:
On this layer mask use a soft black brush with very low opacity (10-15%) to reduce the brightness in the left part of the sky:
Step 8
Open mountain rocks. Select the mount and place it in the left part of the picture:
Step 9
I used an adjustment layer with curves (clipping mask) to brighten this mountain:
On this layer use a soft black brush to remove the edges of the mountain, hiding from the light:
Step 10
I used a color fill layer to partially darken the edges. Go to menu Layer-New Fill Layer-Solid Color:
Reduce the opacity of this layer to 20%. On the layer, use soft black brush to erase the effect of mountains on the right, because we don’t want to involve her in the editing of this layer:
Step 11
Create a new layer, change the blending mode to “Overlay” or “Overlay” 100% and fill with 50% gray:
Take Dodge and Burn Tool (O) with midtones range, exposure time -15-20% to highlight contrast and detail on the mountain. You can see how I did it in normal mode and result with overlay mode:
Step 12
Separate the rock from the background and place it to the right edge of the scene:
Step 13
I used curves to darken the image.
On the curves layer, use soft black brush to remove dark areas on the left edge of the cliff:
